Demonstration facilities
Two UK homes have been built with Hy4Heat hydrogen appliances at Northern Gas Networks’ innovation site in Low Thornley, Gateshead
The two semi-detached homes have been built in a partnership between gas distributors Northern Gas Networks (NGN) and Cadent and the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), to provide the public with the opportunity to experience a zero-emission gas-fuelled home of the future

20 DECEMBER, VIDEOS SHOWN AT COP26 FEATURING HY4HEAT, NOW PUBLISHED
Videos featuring manufacturers and other partners from Hy4Heat and showing some of the hydrogen appliances developed have been published. These videos were shown at the Innovation Zone at COP26 in Glasgow.
8 - 11 NOVEMBER 2021, HY4HEAT AT INNOVATION ZONE, COP26
Hy4Heat’s hydrogen domestic appliances were showcased in Glasgow’s COP26 Innovation Zone. Thousands of visitors to the exhibition saw the demonstration products and spoke to the production team. Baxi and BEIS also presented the programme at the Hydrogen Transition Summit held in the Zone.
19 OCTOBER 2021, HY4HEAT APPLIANCES SHOWCASED AT GLOBAL INVESTMENT SUMMIT
Speakers from BEIS presented the Hy4Heat programme, and a small exhibition showcased some of hydrogen appliances developed. Deputy Director Mark Taylor and Programme Manager John Foyster gave short presentations on the programme and its successes.
September 2021, Hydrogen Home welcomes visitors from far and wide
Since opening earlier in the summer, the ‘Hydrogen Homes’ have been fully booked over their first months. Visitors have included local stakeholders, people from across the gas industry, local schools as well as journalists such as BBC, New York Times, local broadcasters and trade publications. 15 July 2021, First Hydrogen Homes
The UK’s first homes with appliances fuelled entirely by hydrogen have been officially opened by Energy Minister, Anne-Marie Trevelyan. The homes demonstrate the potential of hydrogen energy to help achieve the government’s ambitions to tackle climate change by achieving Net Zero emissions 2050. 16 FEBRUARY 2021, TWO SHOW HOMES WITH HY4HEAT APPLIANCES BEING BUILT IN GATESHEAD
Funded by a BEIS grant, two properties in Low Thornley will have Hy4Heat boilers, hobs, cookers and fires and showcase how hydrogen has potential as a greener replacement for natural gas. Members of the public will be able to see how these appliances compare with ones run on natural gas
23 October 2020, Grant call to support construction of a fixed facility to demonstrate novel hydrogen appliances (Hy4House)
BEIS is seeking to support the construction of up to two fixed facilities to demonstrate hydrogen appliances and meters in a realistic domestic setting. The primary aims are to:
Showcase the potential for hydrogen to act as a credible substitute for methane in the home
Gather research and evidence on the interaction between consumer / user and appliances in a domestic setting
The total budget available for this grant call is £750,000, to be allocated between up to two projects. It is intended that BEIS’s contribution to these projects will represent up to 33% of the total costs of each project, subject to restrictions under EU State Aid regulations. The Department’s grant funding agreement will apply to this project and an indicative copy is made available alongside the grant call document.

13 JULY 2020, GLOBAL CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS GROUP TO DEVELOP APPLIANCE DEMONSTRATION FACILITIES
DRPG has been appointed by BEIS to design and develop hydrogen appliance demonstration facilities. DRPG will be providing exhibition displays, moveable showroom and cooking demo unit, for events, conferences and exhibitions in the future.

BEIS is looking to appoint contractor(s) to provide hydrogen appliance demonstration facilities (moveable). The invitation to tender has been published and organisations interested in bidding are encouraged to register their interest.

BEIS intends to appoint contractor(s) to develop and manage a hydrogen system demonstration facility in a fixed location as part of Hy4Heat’s work package 8b.
30 october 2019, WP8A Demonstration showrooms ENGAGEMENT EVENT - PRESENTATION
An engagement event was held on Wednesday 30 October, 2019 at BEIS Conference Centre. The session brought together appliance developers, marketing and creative agencies, hydrogen experts and other interested parties to discuss the Hy4Heat work package 8a which will demonstrate hydrogen gas appliances developed under the Hy4Heat programme. REGISTER TO ATTEND AN ENGAGEMENT EVENT TO BE PART OF WP8A DEMONSTRATION SHOWROOMS Wednesday 30 OCTOBER 2019
We’re keen to hear from exhibition designers, builders and managers, event management agencies, market researchers, appliance manufacturers and others with an experience of working with hydrogen. Register to attend the session at BEIS Conference Centre on the afternoon of Wednesday 30 October which will inform potential bidders and assist us to develop the invitation to tender. The ITT should be out later this year.
