24 December 2019, OJEU notice for wp8b fixed demonstration facility
BEIS intends to appoint contractor(s) to develop and manage a hydrogen system demonstration facility in a fixed location as part of the Hy4Heat programme’s work package 8b.
20 DECEMBER 2019, ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT PUBLISHED
A short summary of the work undertaken across all the work packages over the past year. It has a foreword from Mark Taylor, BEIS Deputy Director for Energy Innovation and an introduction from Arup Director Mark Neller.
7 DECEMBER 2019, HY4HEAT AT COP25 IN SPAIN
The Hy4Heat programme will present at BIES’s UK Pavilion stand at the United Nations climate change conference COP25 in Madrid on Saturday 7 December. Programme Manager Heidi Genoni will speak at a forum titled Decarbonising Buildings: Breaking the Carbon Connection. She’ll be joined by a panel of representatives from across the building and construction sector.
2 DECEMBER, 2019 PAS4444 PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Industry stakeholders are being encouraged to give comments on the draft PAS4444 (guidance on the development and testing of hydrogen appliances) through the BSI Standards Development Portal . Comments can be submitted until midnight on 10 January 2020. Responders need to register, for free, and organisations are asked to collate responses so that one per organisation is submitted.
18 November 2019, contracts begin for commercial appliance development (WP5b)
BEIS has appointed contractors to develop commercial hydrogen appliances, boiler systems and ancillary system components under a SBRI competition as part of the Hy4Heat programme. Contracts have been awarded to Bosch Thermotechnology Ltd, Enertek International and SOL|Dpower S.p.A.
30 october 2019, WP8A Demonstration showrooms ENGAGEMENT EVENT
An engagement event was held on Wednesday 30 October, 2019 at BEIS Conference Centre. The session brought together appliance developers, marketing and creative agencies, hydrogen experts and other interested parties to discuss the Hy4Heat work package 8a which will demonstrate hydrogen gas appliances developed under the Hy4Heat programme. REGISTER TO ATTEND AN ENGAGEMENT EVENT TO BE PART OF WP8a DEMONSTRATION SHOWROOMS 30 OCTOBER 2019
We’re keen to hear from exhibition designers, builders and managers, event management agencies, market researchers, appliance manufacturers and others with an experience of working with hydrogen. Register to attend the session at BEIS Conference Centre on Thursday 30 October afternoon will inform potential bidders and assist us develop the invitation to tender. The ITT should be out later this year.
20 SEPTEMBER 2019, PRIOR INFORMATION NOTICE (PIN) PUBLISHED FOR THE PROVISION OF HYDROGEN APPLIANCE DEMONSTRATION SHOWROOMS (WP8a)
A prior information notice published, stating that BEIS intends to appoint a contractor to develop and manage hydrogen appliance demonstration showrooms as part of the Hy4Heat programme’s work package 8a.
19 SEPTEMBER 2019, REVISED ITT AND FINAL SET OF CLARIFICATION QUESTIONS PUBLISHED
A final set of clarification questions raised about the WP5b ITT has now been published. The ITT has been re-issued with milestone 6 amended (on pages 15, 34, 45 and 46) to specify only one fully boxed appliance to be delivered for Lot 3A: Burner integrated with a shell boiler (>400 kW) and Lot 4: Combined Heat and Power. This is the only change made to the ITT under Revision C. The submission deadline remains 27/10/19. More details can be found here.
23 AUGUST 2019, WP5B FIRST SET OF CLARIFICATION QUESTIONS ANSWERED
A number of questions have been submitted. We hope the answers are helpful. The deadline for bid applications is midday Friday 13 September.
2 August 2019, WP5B INVITATION TO TENDER NOW OUT
An SBRI competition to develop commercial hydrogen appliances has been published. We are looking for suppliers to bid to be part of the competition to develop commercial hydrogen appliances, boiler cascade systems, and ancillary components for use with hydrogen.
24 JULY 2019, HYDROGEN PURITY REPORT PRESENTED
Hy4Heat Hydrogen Purity Report, written by DNV GL with support from NPL, HSL, Element Energy and Loughborough University is presented at IGEM House. The report is an evaluation and a recommendation of a hydrogen level for the Hy4Heat programme.
14 JUNE 2019, NEW WP7 CONTRACT AWARD NOTICE PUBLISHED
BEIS has issued a new contract award notice for work package 7: research and evidence gathering to compare the fitness for purpose of fittings and general pipework within a typical domestic property for both hydrogen and natural gas

6 JUNE 2019, BEIS APPOINTS WP7 CONTRACTORS
BEIS has appointed DNV GL and Steer Energy to conduct a range of comparative experimental tests, using both natural gas and hydrogen, that simulate scenarios found in domestic environments to quantify the relative risk of using hydrogen versus natural gas - as part of demonstrating and de-risking the use of hydrogen for heating in UK homes and businesses.
21 MAY 2019, WP5 COMMERCIAL APPLIANCE ENGAGEMENT EVENT - PRESENTATION
An engagement event was held on Tuesday 21 May, 2019 at BEIS Conference Centre. The session brought together commercial manufacturers and also other interested parties to discuss the Hy4Heat work package 5 which will develop commercial hydrogen gas appliances. Slides can be found here.

Hy4Heat Programme Manager Heidi Genoni presented at All Energy 19 on the 16th May 2019. Heidi’s presentation focused on the work done by Hy4Heat on demonstrating hydrogen for heat.
14 MAY 2019, PHASE 2 KICK OFF STAKEHOLDER EVENT
Manufacturers through to phase 2 of the competition to develop domestic hydrogen gas appliances heard presentations on hydrogen standards, safety assessment and PAS 4444 at the kick off event on 14 May.

10 APRIL 2019, UNDERSTANDING INDUSTRIAL APPLIANCES PRESENTATION AND WORKSHOP
Element Energy, Jacobs Consulting and Cardiff University presented a draft Understanding Industrial Appliances report at BEIS Conference Centre to an audience of around 50 industry stakeholders.

6 MARCH 2019, WP7 ITT PUBLISHED
The ITT has been published for contractors to carry out safety assessments for the suitability of hydrogen in existing buildings. Suppliers now have until 12 April 2019 to submit applications.
